California Drug Rehab and its Aftermath

Unfortunately drug addiction treatment does not always lead to a full recovery. When patients leave rehab centers, they are no longer in a drug free setting and are reintroduced to their addictions and reminded of their previous lifestyle. The familiarity of their past is sometimes too difficult to reject, and sadly relapse is likely to occur. Relapse is detrimental to the individual in several ways. Not only does relapse put strain on their body through the presence of toxic drugs, it also is damaging for the individuals psychic state, making them feel discouraged about rehab feeling as though it was a wasted effort. Being discourage about rehab is a difficult thing to overcome because it make the individual more resistant towards actively seeking help as their ability to foresee sobriety is clouded. An individual’s ability to prevent relapse after drug addiction treatment, speaks greatly to the treatment center, as it is reflective of the overall care and attention they received. One of the most effective treatments is dual diagnosis, which considers the individuals addictions in conjunction with whatever issues, problems, and co-occurring disorder they may have. For many people, drugs are an outlet or harmful coping mechanism. In order to understand and defeat a drug addiction, the individual must understand his or her own desire to abuse. By identifying all the circumstance that make them abuse drugs, the individual has a greater capacity for picking up on warning signs that may make them vulnerable to relapse.
