Foundation of Recovery

There are three pillars to creating a strong foundation of recovery that have worked for thousands upon thousands who could not do it on their own.

The first, a medical detox program is more frequently required than many think. With large amounts of booze and sometimes even small but steady amounts of drugs the body becomes habituated and can have serious reactions when those substances are removed. In the case of alcohol stopping drinking suddenly can even be life threatening so supervised care in an appropriate facility is highly recommended before beginning a treatment program.

The alcohol treatment program itself is a designated time designed to focus only on the fundamentals of recovery shutting out as many of the outside distractions as possible. This is where you take a deep honest look at drinking behaviors and their consequences.

Frequently after treatment a sober living facility is recommended to minimize distractions and keep focus on a recovery program during the critical initial months of sobriety.

By following these three pillars of recovery and taking sobriety seriously, alcoholics have a very good chance of remaining sober and enjoying a life that they may have given up on.

Sober Living Houses

Completion of any drug rehab program in Los Angeles does not guarantee long-term abstinence from drugs or alcohol. In a way, people fresh from a drug rehab program are in fact at risk of diverting back to a habit they once have been used to. Drug addiction accumulates traces of harmful and addictive substances in the body. Without an intensive detoxification, traces of harmful substances are retained in the body that may cause relapse. This situation hinders full recovery and long-term abstinence from addictive substances.

Sober living houses helps addicted individuals recover completely from addictions. These facilities which are also called halfway houses basically provide accommodations for recovering addicts. Sober living houses are home to individuals who have already completed a drug rehab program, most of whom are not yet totally prepared live with their respective families.

Sober living houses strictly implements a code of conduct for its residents. Curfews and work duties for each recovering addict are defined. Most residents stay in sober living houses for a maximum of six months where they benefit from the company and camaraderie of a group of recovering addicts. These facilities provide venue for new friendships and fun experiences without the use of drugs.

Getting into a sober living house is a choice common to those who are not yet ready to face the real world on their own. This is also a choice of those who had heavy bouts of addiction and who face greater chances of relapse. In general, people who have been to halfway houses have greater chances of living a life of sobriety.
