Foundation of Recovery

There are three pillars to creating a strong foundation of recovery that have worked for thousands upon thousands who could not do it on their own.

The first, a medical detox program is more frequently required than many think. With large amounts of booze and sometimes even small but steady amounts of drugs the body becomes habituated and can have serious reactions when those substances are removed. In the case of alcohol stopping drinking suddenly can even be life threatening so supervised care in an appropriate facility is highly recommended before beginning a treatment program.

The alcohol treatment program itself is a designated time designed to focus only on the fundamentals of recovery shutting out as many of the outside distractions as possible. This is where you take a deep honest look at drinking behaviors and their consequences.

Frequently after treatment a sober living facility is recommended to minimize distractions and keep focus on a recovery program during the critical initial months of sobriety.

By following these three pillars of recovery and taking sobriety seriously, alcoholics have a very good chance of remaining sober and enjoying a life that they may have given up on.

Drug Alcohol Treatment Programs for Multiple Addictions

Many people ask me if there are rehab and medical detox programs to treat multiple addictions. By this they mean addictions to more than one drug or to more than one manifestation of addiction, like overeating, codependence, gambling addiction, etc.

One great Southern California rehab has drug alcohol treatment programs for people who abuse many drugs at once. These people are classified in the addiction treatment community as "polyaddicted." It takes counselors and addiction treatment staff with special knowledge to treat these multiple addictions, and this place has just the right experts.

A Medical Detox Program Keeps You from Harm
A medical detox program is imperative to your health and wellbeing if you abuse multiple substances. Under close doctor supervision, your body is taken off drugs and alcohol safely and comfortably, minimizing any harmful effects of withdrawals. When most addicts try to quit on their own, the withdrawals quickly cause them to return to their drug of choice.

Usually, drug alcohol treatment programs start with a medical detox program to treat drug and alcohol addiction withdrawals. The body is a sensitive mechanism, and it quickly adapts to the presence of addictive chemicals. When you enter a drug and alcohol addiction treatment center, the sudden absence of chemicals in your body could send your organs into shock. Drug and alcohol addiction cannot be successful treated unless the substances are out of your system, so a medical detox program is an absolute necessity for drug alcohol treatment programs.

After a medical detox program
With individual and peer counseling, group therapies, and alternative therapeutic approaches, you can start to understand the inner workings of your drug and alcohol addiction. Knowledge is power, and self-knowledge is key to conquering the disease of addiction. For people with multiple addictions, it usually means that there are more social and emotional triggers for using than those people who simply have one drug of choice. One day at a time, a happy and healthy life is available for any recovering addicts if they don’t lose interest in their recovery.

Methadone Medical Detox Program

Methadone medical detox program is often advised by doctors to patients who have been addicted to substances particularly heroin. However, unknown to some, methadone medical detox itself can lead to addictions. That is why some health professionals continue to classify individuals undergoing methadone detox as practically addicted.

Methadone addictions happens either via consumption of meth substance in relatively higher dosage or taking it in combination with other substances such as alcohol. Like heroin addiction, withdrawal from methadone is never easy and is actually more difficult compared with withdrawal from heroin. Withdrawal from heroin is said to last from seven to ten days whereas withdrawal from meth lasts for a month or even longer.

Health professionals from various addiction treatment centers say that methadone is generally and occasionally used as an analgesic or a pain reliever especially after surgery. In addiction rehabilitation centers, meth is used to treat narcotic addiction. Its effects last up to 24 hours; hence it is administered only once a day in most medical detox programs.

Information being disseminated by most health workers says that methadone can be taken either as a liquid, tablet or an injectable ampoule. Any of these manners of consumption can lead to physical and psychological dependence. Its symptoms include constipation, nausea, sedation, vertigo and edema. It affects the respiratory system causing difficulty in breathing. In serious cases, coma occurs among meth addicts.

Drug treatment programs should be tailored to promote overall treatment and rehabilitation of patients. It should not cater yet another possible cause of addiction.

Drug Addiction Treatment Centers

Drug addiction treatment centers have the reputation for being am enclave for individuals with severe addiction problems. Try asking the person beside you of his/her idea of drug addiction treatment centers and you're most likely to hear remarks labeling these facilities as niches for those who have lost control of their drug use.

However, the real score is that not all patients confined in addiction treatment centers have severe addiction problems. Also, not all who are inside these treatment centers are going through intensive and long term addiction treatment. This is because addiction treatment centers offer various treatment programs aside from residential treatment.

Addiction rehabilitation services include not only inpatient or residential treatment, but also outpatient drug rehab and drug addiction counseling. Drug addicts, regardless of the intensity of their addictions fare better in the treatment program with the help of counseling. This process allows patients and health professionals or health counselors to understand the existing addictions better and to identify best drug addiction therapy programs for each client/ patient.

Most addiction treatment kicks off with a medical detox program. This process helps the body deal with withdrawal symptoms and is also considered a relapse prevention technique. Then there is also medication. Another addiction treatment procedure that utilizes carefully selected drugs throughout the treatment procedure.

However, studies reveal that residential treatment in addiction rehabilitation centers yield greater success rate.
