Bill Clinton; now he was a president to remember. Is this article about him, though? Absolutely not; instead, it is about pills, as the title suggests. Why? Quite simply, pills are becoming a bigger problem than ever before. No, I’m not talking about your average aspirin, vitamin, or supplement. Rather, I’m speaking to the fact that prescription drug dependency is a serious problem in the world today. It’s silly though, at the same time, because proper regulation would have it more under control. Even though this would be the case, drug addicts will always be drug addicts. They will rob pharmacies through the roof if they have to. If this sounds like a farfetched phenomenon; it isn’t. It just happened to a pharmacy a couple blocks away from my home over the weekend. If they can’t come into contact with the prescriptions that they seek, they will find other substances.

            Yet, it is important to note that drug addiction is something that is deeply ingrained in a person. It can be latent for an indefinite amount of time, being sparked into a monster at a moment’s notice.  This is where xanax and addiction, for example, comes into play. A person goes to their doctor for anxiety and they walk out with xanax. Up until this point, this person has not had a problem with alcoholism or addiction. But, they end up taking that xanax and becoming hooked. This happening also attributes to the lack of regulation and thought in the pharmaceutical industry. It is almost unjust to prescribe people medication that only treats the problem per dose and does not offer a long term solution. While this is an educated opinion, there are many who would agree. So, in theory, an addiction to xanax is no longer a problem for only housewives.

It’s one of those things, I never thought I would be a religious person, per se.  I really hated school, and I hated church even worse.  I never saw the point of doing something just because a bunch of people have agreed to bore themselves and each other in the name of spiritual enlightenment.  Give me some real experiences.  I’d rather climb a rock then hear about geological principles, or how “the church is built out of a rock-solid foundation.”  Please.  That’s how I ended up needing this detox from alcohol.  I was trying to live large.

Larger than life.

The right fit is important when determining what kind of center you want to be in control of your recovery.  Just because a dual diagnosis facility was successful for one person, it does not mean that it will work for you.  Every individual is different and every person’s needs are different.  One great way to determine whether or not a facility is right for you is to visit the actual center.  By walking on the actual grounds of a potential rehab center can help you determine whether or not it is the right place for you.  Another helpful thing is to talk to the staff.  By talking to the people who will be helping you through your recovery and heavily involved in your life for a period of time you can get a feel for how your treatment will go.  The best way is to actually talk to the people who are at the facility and visit it if you have the capability to do so.  You want to feel like you made the right decision and chose the best place for you to begin your recovery process.  It will be a difficult decision to make, but it is a decision that is necessary and essential to make if you want to get better.

There are many treatment options, it is important to do research and find one that will work best with the patient’s specific style. Understanding the recovery is a process is important because the addict will have patience with their process of recovery. Allowing the body to heal from the physical and psychological repercussions of addiction is the idea! Talk to a medical professional about your case and learn how to start your process of recovery as soon as possible!

For this reason, there are many mental health treatment facilities that offer dual diagnosis. This way their patients can be treated for both or even numerous disorders. It is not impossible for a patient to be suffering from even more than two disorders. A patient can be an alcoholic, having an eating disorder, and even be a victim of self-harm. These facilities not only take care of a person’s physical health by detoxification or other measures, but they provide therapy and education to heal their mental health and get their mental disorder better controlled.  When a person suffers from different disorders, they may also need more time in rehab and a different road to recovery than other addicts or mentally ill patients.

           California is a large state with a wide variety of people. They range in difference via economics, social, racial, and class statuses. A lot of them are quite weird or privy to being “out there.” Many will pride themselves on sticking out in a crowd. Some will theorize that this has to do with the entertainment industry; as people will get the idea that, by acting and looking different, they may have a better chance at celebrity status. I know some of this to be true, because I am a Californian. But, something else I have been noticing is amount of drug addicts and alcoholics who are cropping up for the same reasons. Sometimes, people think that drug and alcohol use is associated with feeling and being different, or with some form of recognition. In reality, this gets people killed and ruins families. Not everyone can use and drink in the same manner as what is portrayed in films and televisions. This is because it is impossible to mix fiction and reality. So, it is no wonder why California has so many health treatment programs, many of which are overcrowded.

            At the same time, some alcoholics and drug addicts have broken thinking mechanisms in their brain. Obviously, if they got hooked to drugs and alcohol because they saw it somewhere and thought it was cool, or did it to associate with some sort of fame; they need help. Their problems will stem in the mind and the chance that they are mentally ill is quite possible. Fortunately, California dual diagnosis is quite the successful industry, with a proven track record of recovery. An example of this is bipolar treatment centers in California. Often, the alcoholic or addict will seem incredibly moody, with fluctuations in personality that very few will be able to stand.
