Alcohol and Alcoholism

Alcoholism and alcohol are terms that has multiple and contradictory descriptions which are often misrepresented and misunderstood. Alcoholism is classified as a chronic disorder which is characterized by dependence on alcohol, repeated excessive use of alcoholic beverages, development of withdrawal symptoms on reducing or ceasing intake, and the like. It is definitely a type of drug addiction. Denial and tolerance, in its deep sense, is a characteristic distortion in thinking experienced by people with alcoholism. It is an integral part of the disease and a major obstacle to recovery. Professionals have taken advantage of this insight about alcoholism to develop treatment solutions that are matched to a person’s readiness to change and motivate their behavior. However, despite these advances in treatment, many individuals with alcoholism persist in denying their problem, the more severe the addiction, the stronger the denial.

On the other hand, alcohol damages every organ in the body simply by its presence over time. The theories of dependence like physical and psychological dependence assumed that the avoidance of withdrawal was the most compelling motivation for persistent alcohol use. The craving that an alcoholic feels for alcohol can be as strong as the need for food or water. An alcoholic will continue to drink despite serious family, health, or legal problems. But, long before then, it creates psychological dependency by causing them to be convinced that they cannot survive without it. Thus, it became a way of expressing themselves when they are under anxiety, depression, and peer pressure. The physical, social, mental and emotional consequences and problems in drinking alcohol can be faced during the gradual years of our lives. Its effects will be as complicated as it may be like the destruction of our brain cells and our nervous system, cirrhosis of the liver, infection and chronic inflammation, malnutrition, cardiovascular problems, sexual problems, and cancer.

Alcohol is not an ordinary commodity. While it carries connotations of pleasure and sociability in the minds of many, harmful consequences of its use are diverse and widespread. The problem of alcoholism is viewed as a major social problem, one that has an impact not only on the individual and not only on his or her family but on society as a whole.

Transitional sober living after a rehabilitation center

Someone recently asked me if I thought transitional sober living was necessary to stay sober after an addiction recovery program at a rehabilitation center. While nothing is “necessary” to stay clean and sober except a daily decision to remain that way, transitional sober living is definitely helpful to early sobriety. Basically, sober living eases the transition between a rehabilitation center and the fast pace of everyday life.

Transitional sober living facts

The purpose of a transitional sober living home is to reintegrate you into society at your own pace. Here’s a common example of someone benefitting from sober living: the person who burdens themselves way too much after leaving an addiction recovery program. When we’re using drugs and alcohol, most of our energy is being sapped by our addiction. However, once someone gets clean and sober at a rehabilitation center, they usually notice a tremendous surge in their energy levels. They may find they’ve forgotten about goals they’ve had for years, or they may decide they like a whole new set of hobbies.

Many people “go back out”—that is to say, they get drunk or high—soon after finishing a addiction recovery program and leaving the rehabilitation center. This is because drug and alcohol abuse is the only coping mechanism they have made to handle life’s issues. If they don’t do a good job of learning new coping mechanisms while in a rehabilitation center, these recovering addicts don’t have much hope of sticking with their treatment plan.

Transitional sober living helps center these people and keep their focus on recovery during these first few months after rehab. Too many recovering addicts leave a rehabilitation center and get two jobs and a girlfriend and start school and start volunteering and so on. Transitional sober living gives you the opportunity to try your hand at all of life’s new challenges, while also giving you a safe space to come home to, where you and your fellows all have common goals.

Drug addiction programs for women

As a woman who has attended a drug addiction program in an addiction center, I know that there are quite a few women in recovery. But, I thought it’d be helpful for girls out there to know more about a rehab program that really focuses on issues that affect us more than guys. My experience in a drug addiction program for women showed me that help is out there for us girls, as long as we ask for it.

A women’s drug addiction program at an addiction center

I went to a drug addiction program at an Orange County addiction center that was mixed with men and women. However, the therapists and counselors were definitely sensitive to my issues, and the topics covered in my individual counseling sessions reflected this deep understanding and trust. My drug addiction program was specially tailored to deal with my past issues involving abuse and anorexia.

Through focused and productive individual counseling with an understanding therapist, I was able to confront the issues that had driven me to abuse drugs and alcohol. A huge weight was lifted off my back once these issues were resolved through therapy. The experience was also a little frightening, because these were some deep fears and memories that I had kept secret for decades. I’ve been clean and sober for a few years now, so I’m very grateful I went to an addiction center that had treated hundreds of female addicts and alcoholics before me.

A women’s sober living home helped my transition after rehab

After my month in the addiction center, I moved into its affiliated sober living home for women, which was also in Dana Point, California. It was a safe space where I could take new life challenges at my own pace. In the sober living home I met a great group of sisters to help me through early sobriety. We supported each other and looked out for one another, and that sometimes made all the difference.

12-Step Rehab with alternative options

I recently finished a program at a 12-step rehab center in Southern California, so I thought I’d post a review of this 12-step rehab center and give everyone the heads up. I searched far and wide for a drug addiction program in Southern California that would treat me like an individual. The last thing I wanted was some sort of “one size fits all” rehab. This was not only the nicest looking place I saw, but also the most affordable drug addiction program I came across. While it is a 12-step rehab, I should mention that they also offer a whole host of alternative therapies there as well.

I wanted to go above and beyond a 12-step rehab center

I know the 12 Steps do wonders for many millions of people. However, I had been to a 12-step rehab center before, with unsuccessful results. If I was going to do this again, I felt compelled to find a drug addiction program that offered the 12-step method along with some alternative treatment options. That search led me to an affordable drug addiction program that offered holistic therapies in addition to the traditional 12-step and psychotherapy approach.

A different kind of 12-step rehab center

After seeing pictures of this place, I was amazed that it was an drug addiction program. Not only was it in a beautiful home in Dana Point, California (the “Gold Coast” of Orange County), but it also had a wealth of holistic treatment options. From acupuncture to massage, meditation to yoga, this place had holistic therapies galore. Not only did they have rapid medical detox programs—which I needed because the withdrawals from the amount of booze I was drinking might have killed me—but they also had connections with sober living homes in the area where I could go after treatment. This drug addiction program was truly amazing, and I recommend it to anyone who’s looking to beat their addiction before it gets any worse.

Rehabilitation programs are the answer

For the addict, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. Nor are you evil, broken, stupid or weak. You are simply suffering from a disease that requires a rehabilitation program in a rehabilitation center as a course of action.

No one chooses addiction
The old PSA from the ‘90s was right: no one says, “I want to be a junkie when I grow up.” No one chooses addiction, just as no one chooses Parkinson’s or any other chronic, fatal disease for that matter. But because addiction is a mental illness that warps your thinking and your actions, addicts hurt people’s feelings and step on people’s toes as a result of addiction. It’s hard to always remember that it’s not the addicts who are causing the harm, but rather their diseased brain. Addicts are suffering from a mental illness, and they need all the help they can get. To think that someone actively “chooses” addiction is absurd.

A rehabilitation program at a rehabilitation center
Addicts no longer have to live that way if they realize they have a problem and they accept treatment at an addiction recovery program. An addiction recovery program center can do wonders for an addict, especially when a rehabilitation program is specially tailored to the individual patient. While in a rehabilitation center, addicts learn all about the disease of addiction and how it manifests itself in their lives. As part of a rehabilitation program in an addiction recovery program, the bonds that were once broken between addict and family are restored with the help of licensed therapists and addiction medicine staff.

An honest effort at an addiction recovery program will teach you the exact causes and conditions of your addiction. The rehabilitation program works to fix the social and personal bonds that were damaged by the disease. For those who want it, there is help at their fingertips.

Oxycontin detox at an affordable Orange County drug rehab

I found affordable Oxycontin detox!

Finally, I found a reputable place to get Oxycontin detox and Oxycontin treatment without paying an arm and a leg. Most drug rehabs that treat prescription drug addictions seem to cost tons. Don’t they realize that most drug addicts have already spent most if not all of their money on their drugs of choice?

Needless to say, I was quite relieved to find an affordable Orange County drug rehab that offered Oxycontin treatment. What’s more, this place also offers Oxycontin detox and rapid Oxycontin detox, which is especially helpful during any sort of painful opiate withdrawals. Here’s my experience with the Oxycontin detox program, which I underwent before starting Oxycontin treatment at this affordable Orange County drug rehab. Hopefully this information will help someone trying to make the decision between all the different Orange County drug rehabs.

My story with Oxycontin addiction

I became addicted to Oxycontin painkillers after a surgery a few years back. The pills definitely did what they were supposed to: they helped cover up the severe pain I felt as a result of the surgery. Soon my body built a tolerance to it, and I had to take even more Oxy just to manage the pain. After awhile, I found that I had a full-blown addiction to Oxycontin, and that I needed to seek help. That’s when my search for an Oxycontin detox started, because I had already tried to go off the pills on my own, with horrible results. Nausea, night sweats, hallucinations, I simply couldn’t take those horrible symptoms again!

Oxycontin detox flushed out my body

That’s when I found an affordable Orange County drug rehab with an Oxycontin detox program and I signed up. They gave me rapid Oxycontin detox so I could be back on my feet in just a few days. With the help of doctor-administered medications, my Oxycontin detox went smoothly and quickly. After my body was free and clear of addictive chemicals, I was ready to start my Oxycontin treatment at this affordable Orange County drug rehab. It couldn’t have gone better.

Alcohol detox programs in Southern California

I wanted to post about my recent experience with an alcohol detox program at this alcohol detox center in Orange County, California. I’ve been drinking since I was young, though it wasn’t until the last few years that my drinking got way out of control. I tried everything I could think of to get better, but it was no use. My shrink suggested that maybe it was time to try an alcohol treatment program. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I signed up. After all, I wasn’t happy or healthy or fulfilled in any way. I was just drinking day in, day out. So, I gave it a shot, and the alcohol detox center I went to was simply stellar.

I started rehab with an alcohol detox program

Before I could start treatment at this rehab, the counselors said I would have to attend their alcohol detox program for my own safety. Apparently when someone drinks as often and as much as I did, their body adapts to booze so well that when you go cold turkey off the stuff you have to have medical supervision. This alcohol detox center gave me the option of a normal alcohol detox or a rapid detox program. I like anything with “rapid” in the title, so they started me on one of their rapid alcohol detox programs.

I was surprised at how fast and comfortable the alcohol detox program was, especially compared to the horror stories I had heard from other people. The doctor at this alcohol detox center gave me medications to help ease any withdrawal symptoms and help my body flush out any addictive chemicals.

Within just a few days—instead of the week a traditional alcohol detox takes—I was ready to start my alcoholism treatment at the rehab. I felt completely invigorated and ready to do anything to improve my life. I’ll save the stuff about my rehab experience for another post. I just wanted to relate to everyone what a smooth ride the detox program at this alcohol detox center was.

A recovery program is the beginning of a new life

Many alcoholics and addicts worry about how their life will change when they enter a recovery program. Even if they know it will greatly improve their life, they think about all the big changes and decide that it’s easier to just leave things the way they are, which is to say, miserable. Some worry they’ll never be able to have fun again without drugs and alcohol. Even those of us who entered an addiction recovery program convinced it would mean the end of “fun” as we knew it, we quickly realized that we were hardly having fun before entering a rehabilitation program.

A rehabilitation program allows you to live again

While rehab requires a lot of self-reflection and emotional strain, it is truly the door to a life beyond our wildest dreams. I was completely unable to stop drinking and using before my addiction recovery program. I had tried everything in the world to control my drinking, all to no avail. Thinking about it now, I realize I wasn’t having any fun at all. I was hiding in my apartment every day, leaving only to go to the liquor store. Once I made my decision to get healthy and attend a rehabilitation program my life started feeling real again.

Life after an addiction recovery program

What started for me as just a way to stop drinking has now turned into a life full of limitless potential and exciting action. Nowadays, I can set my mind to almost anything and actually do it. When I feel like traveling or doing something new and challenging, I no longer have to worry about having enough booze or drugs to get me through the day. I have problems and issues that arise in my life the same as anyone else, but I don’t drink or use drugs in order to cope with them.

I owe this new life all to a rehabilitation program. And to think, I was worried about whether I could live a happy life without drugs and alcohol!
